I confirmed that with home visits, meeting parents, explaining the project and the extent of help we are able to give to them based on our own limited supplies. It is saddening to see parents working yet unable to provide for their families sufficiently. One father repairs shoes for a living, yet was wearing a pair of sandals recycled from old tires as his own shoes.
Every family I visited had a similar story, was not aware I was coming and had no time to rehearse. Their conditions and situations were as real as it gets. Visiting volunteers have been able to get a first hand look at the lives of the children and their families. I was asked by several parents when will help come. Short of saying, "Right now", no answer was going to be sufficient to relieve the day to day life of survival these people endure.
