This time I wanted to share the ideals of self esteem, tenacity, and courage with the children by way of writing a story and having them read it, each one taking a turn, to read to the group. They were excitied to have their turn, many still need quite a bit of help with their reading, but two things happened. They were actively participating in sharing with their friends and the story itself was settling into their minds about an imaginary creature who lived in a group, high in the Peruvian Andes, and found out that they were able to fly and no longer needed to drag themselves along the snow and ice anymore. It told of how the first one encouraged the rest of them and I hoped they would be able to make the connection. They all had a responsibility to help each other, as a team, and a community, to better themselves.
Success is a slow moving energy. Nothing happens instantly that lasts very long. I expect to be here a very long time and in time I fully expect to see the developments by way of example, encouragement and a multitude of creativity from each of the children who realize that an incredible life awaits them, subject only to their own ability to dream. ~~~ Siempre, Jim Killon
