Yesterday, April 23, 2015, we went to, what I was sure is the end of the earth, to a place called Pampas Chicos. 400+ children, struggling just to get by, many of them orphans cared for by various families in the villages. Reportedly 80% are suffering with anemia, most have parasites. The mayor Gilber shared the situation with me and had just one simple plea,"Help us!" Guess what we are going to do? Help Them! I can not turn my back on such suffering of children and I will bet you can't either.
UPDATE May 8, 2015
I just returned from the Pampas Chicos district visiting several dozen of children living at 4100 meters and feeling it. It was so cold you can see your breath all day everyday. The children's cheeks were reddened by the effects of the Sun through the thin mountain air and the gusty winds. Like with most children I encounter, malnutrition and anemia are rampant. We are coordinating a joint effort between the municipalities and Changes for New Hope to find and manage solutions here.
I'd love it if some of my friends here can grab a piece of this action and make a small contribution.
